UPSC vs State PSC | UPSC PSC
In India, lakhs of aspirants appear for the competitive exams held every year. There are many exams which are competitive in nature. Exams held by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and State PSC (State Public Service Commission) are such exams which are very much competitive. Moreover, its a dream of each and every individual to crack these exams. Therefore, its necessary for an individual to know each and every difference of the UPSC and State PSC.
In this article, we are going to see some differences between the UPSC and SPSC based on different parameters.
Difference based on Number – UPSC PSC
UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)
There is only one UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) in our country. Also, it doesn’t have any other branches.
SPSC (State Public Service Commission)
There are many PSCs in the state level, conducted for the recruitment of services at state level. For example – Kerala PSC, Andhra Pradesh PSC and Assam Public Service Commission.
Composition and Tenure – UPSC PSC
Speaking of the composition, UPSC comprises of a chairman and other members. Secondly, the members of the UPSC are appointed by the President.
Likewise, the chairman and the members hold their office for six year term or till they attain the age of 65 years.
SPSC
Now, coming to SPSC, similarly SPSC also consists of a chairman and other members. They are appointed by the Governor of that particular state.
Similarly, the chairman and the members hold the office for 6 year term or till they attain the age of 62.
Operations and Functions
UPSC
UPSC conducts exams for appointing people to the services of the Union. In addition, these services includes all central, Indian and Public services of the Union Territories.
UPSC submits report to the President which includes the work done by the commission in that period. The President then, presents it in the Houses of the parliament to describe the incidents and cases where the advice of the commission was accepted and not accepted.
UPSC is also responsible for providing the advice to the President.
SPSC
SPSC conducts examination for the recruitment to the services of that particular state.
SPSC presents the report annually to the Governor of that particular state. Similarly, the Governor presents it in the Houses of the state legislature where he’ll explain about the work and performance of the SPSC and the instances where the Governor took the advice from the Commission.
SPSC is also responsible for providing the advice to the president as well as the state legislature.
Examination – UPSC PSC
Well, if we speak about both the exams, the syllabuses and concept covered in both the exams are somewhat same. But, the concepts and syllabus of UPSC is quite wider than the PSC. So, an aspirant after studying UPSC if appears for SPSC it can be more easier for him to crack it.
While UPSC will be more related to the Union affairs, SPSC will be related to the State affairs. So, its generally advised to study about the state affairs for SPSC Exam.
Similarities
While there are differences between the two commissions, there are some similarities between them also.
UPSC involves one chairman and other members. In the same vein, SPSC also involves one chairman and other members.
Both UPSC and SPSC are enlisted under Article 315 to 323.
Both UPSC and SPSC have their own importance, aspirants can appear for both the exams. There are opportunities in both the exams. So, it is generally advised for the aspirants to try both simultaneously.
