Bureau of Energy Efficiency
- The Government of India established the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in March 2002 as a legislative entity in accordance with the Energy Conservation Act 2001.
- It is in charge of leading the way in enhancing the economy’s energy efficiency using various regulatory and promotional tools. BEE’s main objective is to lower energy use in the Indian economy.
- It works in concert with State-level organisations and energy users to carry out tasks and use authority that may be required for India’s efficient use of energy and energy conservation.
The following are the broad goals of BEE:
- To exercise leadership, make recommendations for policy, and give national energy conservation and efficiency initiatives and programmes direction.
- To provide it to the stakeholders and coordinate policies and initiatives for energy efficiency and conservation.
- To set up processes and procedures to assess, track, and confirm energy efficiency performance in each sector as well as overall.
- In order to implement the Energy Conservation Act and ensure the effective use of energy and its conservation programmes, it is necessary to harness multilateral, bilateral, and private sector support.
- To show how to implement energy efficiency services through private-public partnerships as required by the EC law.
- Interpreting, organising, and managing energy conservation programmes in accordance with the Energy Conservation Act’s guidelines.
