Highlights:

  • In honor of India’s 75th anniversary of independence, TRIFED introduced 75 new tribal products to its already sizable and appealing Tribes India catalog.
  • 75 products of tribal origin or source have been identified by the TRIFED GI Movement and will be registered for Geographical Indication (GI) Tags under the Indian Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
  • Twenty Indian states have provided the tribal products for GI tagging.
  • 37 of the 75 GI tribal products that have been identified come from eight states in the North East.
  • Seven products from Jharkhand and six products from Madhya Pradesh have also been identified from the tribal heartland states for GI Tagging.
  • There are numerous initiatives being launched and events being planned as India marks its 75th anniversary of independence through the Amrit Mahotsav, a project inspired by the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
  • As part of its ongoing efforts to support and sustain tribal incomes and livelihoods, TRIFED continues to work toward the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. Through its network of Tribes India retail network, both offline and online, TRIFED has been acquiring and marketing tribal art and craft items as a small contribution to acknowledge the craftsmanship of the tribal artisans and boost their livelihoods.
  • As India approaches its 75th anniversary of independence, TRIFED introduced 75 new tribal products, expanding the already sizable and appealing Tribes India catalog. The products, which were sourced from all over the nation, included exquisite and eye-catching items like metal figurines, handmade jewelry, decorations like hangings, handcrafted apparel like shirts, kurtas, and masks, as well as organic produce like spices, juice concentrates, and other herbal powders.
  • In addition, TRIFED has identified 75 products of tribal origin or source that will be registered for a geographic indication (GI) tag under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, India, in keeping with the goals of INDIA@75-The People’s Movement. Twenty Indian states have contributed tribal products for GI tagging, and of the 75 such products that have been identified, 37 come from the eight North Eastern states. Seven products from Jharkhand and six products from Madhya Pradesh have also been identified from the tribal heartland states for GI Tagging.
  • Additionally, TRIFED is getting ready to establish an Atmanirbhar Bharat corner in 100 Indian Missions/Embassies around the globe. In addition to natural and organic goods, the corner will be a special place to advertise tribal art and craft products with GI tags. Missions and embassies have also received catalogs and brochures that highlight the diversity and wealth of tribal products. 42 of the missions and embassies that were contacted—from nations like Jamaica, Ireland, Turkey, Kenya, Mongolia, Israel, Finland, France, and Canada—have responded negatively. The first shipment of tribal goods for the corner is being dispatched by TRIFED.
  • TRIFED has been acquiring and marketing tribal art and craft products through its network of retail outlets called Tribes India as part of its mission to uplift the underprivileged tribal people in India by promoting the economic welfare of their communities (through development of marketing and the sustained upgradation of their skills). In 1999, there was only one flagship location, at 9 Mahadev Road in New Delhi. Today, there are 141 stores spread out throughout India.
  • With these additional initiatives, it is hoped that these distinctive tribal goods will find a market on a national and international scale and that the larger goal of “Vocal for Local, Buy Tribal” can be realized, which will have a truly transformative effect on the employment of tribal people in the nation and the generation of sustainable income. On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, Team TRIFED wishes everyone the best of luck and success!
